Greeneview junior Mya Simpson (8) nets her second goal of the match on Monday to help the Rams advance in the Division V District Tournament with an 8-0 win against Dixie.

JAMESTOWN — Mya Simpson scored twice in the first three minutes and Greeneview cruised to victory in its Division V District Tournament First Round match on Monday against Dixie.

The 8-0 final was called at halftime as part of the mercy rule put in place by the OHSAA during tournament play.

Elyse Waggoner fired in two corner kicks, one of which Simpson headed in and another that she batted down with her shin within 59 seconds of one another. Greeneview (15-2-1) wouldn’t score again for another 20 minutes until Waggoner handled a ball that bounced around from multiple shots to fire one near the opposite corner from right of the net.

Minutes afterward Daylee Sandlin twice got breakaway chances that she easily touched past the keeper and the rout was on to the finish for the No. 2-seed in the region.

Dixie was the 16-seed and had its season end with a 3-15-0 record.

Greeneview will be back in action on Thursday in the District Quarterfinals. The Rams will host No. 17 Northeastern at 7 p.m. Greeneview won a regular season matchup between the two teams on Aug. 31 by an 11-0 score.

Knights take down Bulldogs

Top-seeded Legacy Christian needed a few minutes to get warmed up in the chilly evening, but overwhelmed Yellow Springs once they were ready.

The Knights won 8-0 in its D-V District Tournament First Round game with the match ending just under four minutes into the second half. Mallory Snyder chipped a ball from near the left corner of the penalty box that floated over to the opposite top corner to finish the match.

LCA (14-2-1) got a goal by Ava Combs in the 12th minute of the first half but didn’t get going until later. Six goals coming in under six minutes were started with 14 minutes left until halftime as Aubriana Woods and Anna Sweeney netted balls before Allie Graves score three straight to get her fifth hat trick of the season. Woods scored again to cap the run with roughly nine minutes left in the half.

Combs ended up with three assists on the scoring for Knights. LCA will next host No. 18-seed Miami Valley on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the District Quarterfinals, a matchup the Knights won by a 12-0 score on Sept. 6 during the regular season.

Yellow Springs ends its season with an 8-7-0 record.
