FCS board approves new superintendent

FAIRBORN — Fairborn City Schools has appointed a new superintendent to take over following Gene Lolli’s retirement announcement.

In August, Lolli announced his retirement as superintendent of Fairborn City Schools, effective Dec. 31. Following a school board Meeting on Sept. 5, assistant superintendent Amy Gayheart was approved to take over the role.

Gayheart is a graduate of Fairborn High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in English education from Wright State University. She also holds a M.Ed from Liberty University in school counseling.

“I am honored to serve my community and lead Fairborn City Schools,” said Gayheart. “I look forward to continued growth and improvement within the district as we explore new opportunities for our students.”

Gayheart has more than 25 years of experience working for FCS, and previously served as an ELA teacher at Baker Middle School and Fairborn High School.

In 2012, Gayheart served as assistant principal at Fairborn High School, and was promoted to principal in 2017. Gayheart then transitioned to director of educational services and classified personnel in 2019, and in 2022 was named assistant superintendent. She also has experience in human resources, instructional programming, product management, and educational leadership.

“We are very excited to have a Fairborn graduate at the helm,” said Fairborn Board of Education President Jerry Browning. “With Amy’s experience we can take the Fairborn City School District to the next level.”

The change of command comes after Lolli’s 13 years working in the district. No search was held to find a new superintendent, and FCS announced that Gayheart was the presumed candidate.

“We are most thankful for the years of service from superintendent Lolli,” said Browning. “Under his leadership, we have built three new schools and we have strengthened the relationships with the Fairborn community and Bath Township and will be adding a middle school. We wish him all the best in his retirement,”
