The Fairborn Regional Orchestra is ready for its next annual event this Saturday.

FAIRBORN — This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Fairborn Regional Orchestra’s annual concert, which will happen at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.

The Fairborn Regional Orchestra (FRO) was formed when A.C. Strings and Fairborn Civic Band directors Kathy Johnston and Gary Johnson collaborated 10 years ago. To celebrate, this year’s performance will be called “Something Old, Something New,” and is free for all guests.

The anniversary concert will take place at Abiding Christ Lutheran Church, 326 Dayton-Yellow Springs Road.

The FRO will perform this year under the direction of Dr. Phillipa Burgess, Gary C. Johnson and Mary Jo Johnson. Some songs to be featured include the “Russian Sailors Dance,” from the ballet “The Red Poppy” by Reinhold Gliere. “Armenian Rhapsody,” by Russian composer Ippolitow-Iwanow, will also be played featuring Johnston as the solo violinist.

The orchestra will also present a fan favorite, “Pirates of the Caribbean,” by Michael Sweeney.
