XENIA — The only thing matching the scorching temperatures on Friday was the rate at which Xenia lit up the scoreboard.

The Buccaneers set a new school record for points in a single game with a 66-0 shutout of West Carrollton to begin Miami Valley League play.

The previous record occurred during the 2022 undefeated regular season campaign when Xenia won 64-20 also against WC.

The 66-point win was also the largest margin of victory ever against any opponent by Xenia.

“We weren’t really pleased with our performance last week,” head coach Maurice Harden said. “We wanted to make sure we came out here and play a very clean football game and I felt like we did that.”

Xenia led 49-0 at halftime with a balanced offensive effort in support of its impenetrable defense.

Three touchdown runs by Deaunte White were produced as part of his 111 yards on 11 carries. Gavin McManus only played in the first half and was 10-for-12 passing for 171 yard and three touchdowns. Shawn Fishwick caught two, including a spectacular grab in the corner of the end zone during the first quarter, and Isaiah Creditt also had a receiving score.

“Every single day in practice, we are working on the routes that we are running in games and we’re always prepared,” Fishwick said. “We especially have the chemistry that we have because my boy Gavin as QB one, I’ve been with him for all three of my years and him being a senior makes everything great.”

It wasn’t just the offense that got on the scoreboard as the Buccaneers scored in all three phases of the game.

Trimonde Henry bobbled a punt late in the first half and in the process of securing it found a lane near the sideline that allowed him to weave past his pursuers for a long return touchdown. After Sean Leonard knocked a 32-yard field goal through the uprights, Ronnie Butler included the defense into the scoring party with a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The starting defense held West Carrollton under 100 yards for the game and forced three turnovers to produce Xenia’s fifth shutout in the past three seasons and help the Buccaneers head into week three having gone seven straight quarters not allowing a point.

“Without our defense, we can’t do what we get to do on offense,” Fishwick said. “It’s a huge thing we get from them and our new defensive coordinator [Butch Snider], man he’s amazing.”

Harden said he’s proud to see the response from his players to Snider as DC and believes the group of playing well.

The most impressive play of the game may have come in the final minute when Gage Stephan at quarterback lofted a pass to Jordan Ford who made an over the shoulder grab at the goal line to come down with the record setting points.

“Just our execution and our level of focus was the big things this week,” Harden said. “Getting in and out of our formations, blocking things correctly and being able to identify things in the pass game. And defensively it was just being sound, reading our keys and being discliplined and I felt like we did that for the most part tonight.”

Xenia improves to 2-0 this season with the win, something it has done in all four seasons under Harden.
