Cooling stations available for heat wave

XENIA — Temperatures are rising this week in Greene County, and the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory until tomorrow night at 8 p.m.

According to Greene County Public Health, the heat and humidity are forecast to be high throughout the week and caution should be taken when outdoors. The most vulnerable include the elderly, those who work or exercise outdoors, infants and children, people who are experiencing homelessness, and those with chronic medical conditions.

For those without reliable access to shelter and air conditioning, cooling stations have been made available around Greene County.

In Xenia, the Xenia Community Library, 76 E. Market Street is available. Yellow Springs cooling stations include the Senior Center at 227 Xenia Ave., John Bryan Community Center at 100 Dayton Street, and the Community Library at 415 Xenia Ave.

In Fairborn, the Fairborn Police Department lobby at 70 W. Hebble Ave. will be open as a cooling station, along with the Senior Center on 325 N. 3rd Street, and the Community Library on 1 E. Main Street. In Beavercreek, the senior center on 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road, and the Community Library on 3619 Dayton-Xenia Road are also cooling stations.

Additionally, the Spring Valley Senior Center on 2551 Old U.S. 42 South, the Cedarville Community Library on 20 S. Miller Street, the Jamestown Community Library on 86 Seaman Drive, and the Winters-Bellbrook Community Library on 57 W. Franklin Street are all designated cooling stations open to the public.
