FAIRBORN – Fall is officially here – leaves are falling, the wind is blowing and kids are getting ready for the Halloween festivities. However, now is the time that the City of Fairborn is planning for the downtown holiday festivities and is in search of the annual community Christmas tree.

This tree, which should be at least 30 feet tall and must be located within city limits, is decorated for the holiday season and lit up at the annual holiday parade and tree lighting on Friday, Dec. 4. Residents interested in donating their fir, spruce or pine (any variety of evergreen) should call 754-3030 or email [email protected] with their name, address, approximate height of the tree and location of the tree within their yard.

City staff evaluates all potential tree donations before selecting the community Christmas tree. Once the tree is selected, staff in collaboration with Cemex will arrange to cut down the tree on a Saturday in November and move it to the center of downtown Fairborn. A sign indicating the tree donor will also be prominently displayed with the tree.

The city receives a number of donation calls each year in regards to a tree donated outside of city limits. However, due to location and having to coordinate transportation of the tree, only those trees located within the city are able to be evaluated. The deadline to submit a tree for consideration is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.
