FAIRBORN – In living up to its reputation of being “Halloween City,” the City of Fairborn is hosting multiple activities in conjunction with the holiday. The Halloween Fest and Spooktacular Parade will be held Friday, Oct. 23, while the downtown Halloween Fest will take place Saturday, Oct. 24. Trick or Treat is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Citizens can additionally view the Halloween supplies at Foy’s at their leisure thanks to local businessman, Mike Foy.
One of the responsibilities of the Mayor’s Beautification Committee is to select three residences appropriately decorated for the occasion. Committee members are assigned a local district and will make the rounds in their area to choose the three addresses they find have outstanding holiday decorations. By calling the City Manager’s Office, community members may also nominate themselves or a neighbor to be included in the judging.
Committee members will make the rounds 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 to the 24 nominated homes. Members ask that participants have their lights on during that time frame. At the end of the evening, the top three residences will be selected. They will be notified via letter and invited to be present to receive their awards at the Spooktacular Parade, Friday, Oct. 23.
The awards this year are three ceramic pumpkins of a variety of shapes and forms. The Mayor’s Beautification Committee is appreciative of Terri Lynn, owner of Terri Lynn’s Art Studio and Gallery LLC, for dedicating her talent and time to add the art work and inscriptions to each of the prizes.
