DAYTON — Beavercreek’s Catherine McNutt is one of three Dayton Boat Club rowing alumnae competing in the NCAA national rowing championships May 26-28 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.

McNutt, a 2014 Beavercreek High School graduate, and Sarah Peffley, a 2013 Clayton Northmont graduate, row with Ohio State University, which won the Big Ten Conference title, May 14 to earn an automatic NCAA bid. McNutt, a junior civil engineering major, and Peffley, a senior animal science major, took second place in the second varsity eight.

University of Notre Dame senior environmental engineering major Gretchen Bruggeman, a 2013 Chaminade Julienne High School graduate from Oakwood, took second place in the varsity eight in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships May 14, helping Notre Dame earn an at-large bid to the NCAA championships.

“One way we measure our success as a program is how our athletes do in competition after high school,” said Mike Miles of Oakwood, head coach at Dayton Boat Club. “These three outstanding rowers are representing the Dayton area well as we continue to grow the sport of rowing in the region through our Community Olympic Development Program. I have high hopes that we’ll have another NCAA rowing champion or two from Dayton this year.”

Webcasts of the races will be available at ncaa.com/sports/rowing/d1.

Dayton Boat Club is part of Dayton Regional Rowing, the nation’s only Community Olympic Development Program for rowing. A partnership of USRowing, Five Rivers MetroParks, the Dayton Boat Club and the Greater Dayton Rowing Association, Dayton Regional Rowing offers a community-based rowing program that helps athletes develop their performance, thus enhancing the Olympic sports feeder system in Dayton.
