Beavercreek girls finish third in state bowling team competition

COLUMBUS — The Beavercreek High School girls bowling team placed third in the single-elimination team tournament, held Friday night, March 10 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

The Beavers entered seeded first in the tournament after Friday’s individual tournament saw Beavercreek bowlers Raven Cooper, Brittany-Ann O’Connell, Emily Florkey, J’Dee Sandin and Jenna Morgan combine for a 3,407 team series.

Beavercreek defeated familiar Greater Western Ohio Conference foe Kettering Fairmont, the team tournament’s eighth seed in the first round, 831 to 653. They then lost to eventual state champion and No. 4 seed Stow-Munroe Falls, 795 to 706 in the semifinal round.

Other members of the Beavers girls bowling team in Columbus are: senior Kaylee Fernatt; and sophomores Cameron Reich and Kera Michaels. The team is coached by Bob Babbitt.

Three of the eight team qualifiers in the Division I competition hailed from the Greater Western Ohio Conference. Joining top seed Beavercreek in the team finals is No. 5 seed Centerville and No. 8 seeded Kettering Fairmont.

In the morning’s individual competition, Cooper placed fourth with a 225-225-193—643 series and O’Connell was fifth with a 246-190-203—639 series, out of 184 bowlers. Freshman Dakota Fink of Columbus Briggs took state individual honors with a 677 series.

Florkey placed 34th overall with a 542 series, Sandin (42nd) rolled a 524, and Morgan placed 51st with a 505 tally.

Six of the tournament’s top-10 individual bowlers also hailed from the GWOC.
