Golf league gets back into swing of things
XENIA — Twelve junior golfers teed it up in week four of the WGC Junior Golf League after two weeks of rainouts. Dillon Potts fired a 41 to win the Junior Boys Division while Zach Halder continued his fine play shooting his best-ever 38 to win the Senior Boys Division. Miles Witt won the Closest-to -the-Pin Contest on Hole 5 and Ian Rinehart made the Longest Putt on Hole 9. The grand finale will be held next Wednesday with signups by 10:45, and a scramble format starting at 11 a.m. Special contests including Longest Drive, Closest-to-the-Pin and Longest Putt Made will be held.
Gerry Faust to speak at Carroll HS
RIVERSIDE — Coach Ben Rulli and the Carroll High School Football Team would like to invite the Carroll community to listen to legendary football coach Gerry Faust speak on FAITH, FAMILY, FRIENDS, and FOOTBALL.
His talk will take place in the Carroll gym starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28. Admission is free.
Immediately following, in a separate event, Coach Faust will lead Dayton area parochial football players in a Rosary Rally to be held at the University of Dayton in front of Immaculate Conception Chapel. It is set to begin at 7 p.m.
Coach Faust was born in Dayton on May 21, 1935, and was an All-State quarterback for his father, Fuzzy, the coach at Chaminade High School. He earned three letters in football at the University of Dayton and was a teammate of former Carroll Coach Jim Spoerl. Over an 18-season period, Faust led Cincinnati Moeller High School to a record of 174-17-2, 5 state championships, and 4 mythical national championships. He became the 24th head coach at The University of Notre Dame and compiled a record of 30-26-1 in five years. He resides in Akron with his wife, Marlene, and stays busy traveling and giving motivational talks inspired by his Catholic faith.

Raiders announce nonleague schedule
FAIRBORN — The 2015-16 Wright State men’s basketball schedule will include games with nine teams that advanced to postseason tournaments last March, including national runner-up Kentucky and Sweet 16 team Xavier, WSU head coach Billy Donlon announced Thursday.
The campaign starts at the Northern Illinois Tournament November 13-15. Along with NIU, the Raiders will play Cal State Northridge and South Dakota in the round-robin event in DeKalb, Ill. WSU has never played Cal State Northridge or South Dakota, but Northern Illinois was once a conference foe in the mid-90’s.
Next up for the Raiders will be a trip to Lexington, Ky., to play the Wildcats on Nov. 20. WSU is 0-3 versus UK with the most recent coming early in the 1998-99 season at the Cincinnati Crown. The Raiders have played twice at Rupp Arena (1992-93 and 1996-97). Wright State returns home for the opener on November 25 against Mount St. Joseph. The month ends as WSU travels to play George Mason the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Wright State comes back to the Nutter Center to host Albion and Georgia State. GSU went 25-10 a year ago and upset Baylor in the first round of the NCAA Tournament 57-56, hitting a last-second shot to seal the win. Next up will be a game at 23-win Xavier on December 8. The Musketeers are fresh off a Sweet 16 appearance, losing to Arizona after beating Ole Miss and Georgia State. The Raiders will play at Miami December 13 for a traditional rival event against the RedHawks.
December ends with three straight postseason teams at home as Charleston Southern (Dec. 17), Bowling Green (Dec. 20) and Murray State (Dec. 22) come to town before the holidays. Charleston Southern posted a record of 19-12 and played in the NIT while BGSU won 21 and moved into the second round of the CIT. The Racers also played in the NIT Sweet 16 while posting 29 overall wins.

Central State football hosting Fan Appreciation Day
WILBERFORCE — CSU football to host Fan Appreciation Day on August 22nd The Central State football team will hold Fan Appreciation Day at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22 at McPherson Memorial Stadium. Admission is free and the gates will open at 1 p.m.
Marauder fans will be able to view the 2015 team in an intersquad scrimmage. The CSU Athletic Department will supply 2015 football team schedules and facilitate contests and giveaways throughout the afternoon. Students are also encouraged to stop by the CSU Sports Information table for details on tickets and upcoming events throughout the 2015-16 school year.
Throughout the event, students who are followers of the CSU athletics twitter, facebook and instagram accounts will be randomly selected for prizes. Follow CSU on its new social media pages to be eligible to win today.
