10 hours ago | | | Email

CEDARVILLE TOWNSHIP — A group of Greene County FFA members gathered to help clear debris from some Cedarville farmland Wednesday afternoon. That debris was deposited in the field by the tornado that ripped through the area outside the village the evening of May 14.“When the tornado zipped through here, it just missed the house,” cleanup organizer Brad Lokai said. “All the stuff was just dropped out here.”Sticks, scrap lumber and even a bowling ball were among the debris that needed to be cleared before farmer Gary Clemans could use the land again. FFA and community members worked together to load the scrap up onto trailers for it to be hauled away.

The leaf blower divide

These machines senselessly endanger your health. When new neighbors moved in next door, I didn’t hold off long before broaching the Big Question.Even though we live in Washington, D.C., this had nothing to do with politics. For me, neighborly harmony hinges on where folks stand on this divide: leaf blower vs. rake. You see, I’m one of those otherwise calm individuals who goes totally bonkers at the sound of a leaf blower. It would be different if thi...

Why I’m marching for climate action

The vast mines stripping Alberta’s tar sands are wrecking old-growth forests.I’ve long known how wasteful, destructive, and dangerous the process of extracting oil from tar sands is. You have to dig up four tons of dirt and rock to get one barrel of oil. Beautiful old-growth boreal forest becomes a wasteland. And that single barrel of oil? It creates three times as much climate pollution as producing a barrel of conventional crude. That’s why I...

Are you on the highway to heaven?

There are two roads we can take our choice to travel: one is the highway to heaven with Jesus, or the road that leads to destruction and death.Satan is trying to get as many as he can get to go to the place called hell. It was created by God for the devil and all the angels that followed Satan, when he rebelled against God. In the beginning, God created everything good, and this is the second time that the world went mad. The first time God had a flood come and wiped out evil and n...

Warned again and again

“The Lord, the God of their fathers, sent word to them through his messengers again and again, because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place. But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy.” (2 Chronicles 36:15-16)There is no arguing that God is more than fair with His people. He makes His Word known over and over again through His pro...
