Augustine accepts AD job at Bethel
XENIA — Xenia Christian Athletic Director John Augustine announced Wednesday that he will be accepting the A.D. position at Tipp City Bethel High School. Augustine’s final day as Xenia Christian Athletic Director will be July 25.
He said Shaun Power, the varsity boys basketball coach at Xenia Christian, has been appointed committee leader for a search for his replacement.
Xenia Christian High School is a Class A-sized school. According to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Directory, the school had 48 boys and 49 girls student-athletes. The school is located at 1101 Wesley Ave. in Xenia.
Bethel and Brown hired as assistant ADs
FAIRBORN — Chris Bethel, former patron services manager for the Wright State Nutter Center, and Joylynn Brown, former WSU head volleyball coach, have been named assistant athletics director for facilities and assistant athletics director for internal operations for Wright State athletics, respectively.
Bethel served with the WSU Nutter Center since 2000 as patron services manager and oversaw various areas, including facility scheduling for the Nutter Center, all athletic fields and McLin Gym as well as parking, ushers and guest services. He acted as the main contact for many events which included preparing contractual agreements, planning as well as coordination of event set up and tear down.
Brown, who played volleyball at WSU 1989-1992, was an assistant coach for the program from 1995 to 1998 and then head coach until 2005 when she chose to step down to concentrate on other endeavors. During her time as head coach, she was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year in 2001 when she was also selected as the AVCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year.
Big names commit to PGA Tour event
AKRON – The World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational has received three big-name commitments over the past 48 hours, as defending champion Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and PGA Tour rookie of the year Jordan Spieth have all added their names to the commitment list and will be challenging a stellar field when the event returns July 30-Aug. 3 at Firestone Country Club.
The Bridgestone Invitational recently announced several new fan enhancements including concerts after play on Friday and Saturday of tournament week, as well as local favorite restaurants Swenson’s and Strickland’s serving food this year. Additionally, fans will receive happy hour prices during the Music After Play concert series Friday and Saturday with $5 Heineken USA beer options from 6-8 p.m. in the tournament’s Fan Zone.

Deadline nears for Dragons 5K event
DAYTON –Registration is under way for the 5th Annual SUBWAY® Dragons 5K at Fifth Third Field on Saturday, July 19. For the third straight year, SUBWAY® restaurants spokesperson Jared Fogle is scheduled to join the Dayton Dragons for the event.
