Xenia rider wins Eastern Division crown


LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Tyler Lawson claimed three event wins in three days to win the USA BMX Eastern Division Championship, last weekend. Competing in the 17-18 Novice Division, Lawson defeated riders from South Carolina, Florida and Kentucky to win the title last weekend.

BELLBROOK 162, WEST CARROLLTON 206: Miranda Greene and Alyssa Burritt finished 1-2 to lead Bellbrook (7-1) over West Carrollton in Wednesday’s high school golf match at Pipestone Golf Course in Miamisburg. Greene finished with a medalist 35; Burritt was second with a 39. Chase Maloney was the top scorer for the Pirates with a 43.


GIRLS H.S. TENNIS


XENIA 3, SPRINGFIELD SHAWNEE 2: Tarah Crawford, Tabitha Crawford and Aly Landis each claimed straight-set singles wins to lead the Buccaneers to Wednesday’s win. The doubles team of Savannah Puckett and Payton McLain almost made it for Xenia victories, but the tandem lost a pair of well-played tiebreakers.

Skyhawks’ Patten in running for Player of the Week Award


Fairborn’s Aaliyah Patten is among 10 Ohio girls soccer players who have been nominated for the JJHuddle/Bucknuts Ohio High School Girls Soccer Player of the Week award. Patten, the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s leading scorer, scored two goals in an 8-1 win over Trotwood-Madison earlier this season. The deadline to vote is Friday. Coffman swimming evaluations today


The Coffman YMCA Swim Team will be holding evaluations for new members from 4:30-5:30 p.m. today at the Fairborn YMCA. Coffman YMCA uses Fairborn’s pool as a practice facility. Any Fairborn YMCA member is welcome to be a part of Coffman’s competitive swimming program.

Hummingbirds Soccer offered


BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Parks and Recreation Department, in cooperation with Jump Start Sports, is offering Hummingbirds Soccer for children ages 3-6. The camp is scheduled for Mondays, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Sept. 8-Oct. 13 (ages 3-4), and 6:30-7:30 p.m. (ages 5-6) at Rotary Park. Fee for residents is $65; non-resident fee is $75.


Boys and girls will have fun and learn the basics of soccer: dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting and positioning. Each session consists of instruction in each aspect of the game, fun drills that are designed to teach skills, and low-key non-competitive games.

Introductory Lacrosse camp starts Sept. 9


BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Jump Start Sports is offering Introductory Lacrosse Camp for children in grades K-5. The camp is scheduled from 6-7:15 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 9-Oct. 14, at Rotary Park. Fee for residents is $65; non-resident fee is $75.


Experienced coaches, provided by Jump Start Sports, will lead the training on all the fundamentals, including: passing, catching, fielding ground balls, cradling, spacing, positioning and defense. Players will be divided by gender and age to play fun game situational scrimmages. Plastic sticks and soft balls will be provided.
