Contestants enjoy BB Gun shoot

XENIA — A fun .22-caliber/BB gun shoot was held Aug. 2 at the Greene County Fish and Game Association, on 1538 Union Rd.

All contestants either received a trophy or a ribbon. Many first-time shooters won trophies. The Fish and Game Association would like to thank John Goldsboro for once again serving as Range and Safety Officer this year. Other Instructors were Gary Evans, and Keith Angel, and Trish Lough was a valuable assistant.

Participants ranged in age from 4-15 years of age. Seira Peterson shot the only perfect score of 100 at this shoot. Other shooters were Grace Dresher, Dani Dresher, Kaden Church, Nick Williams, Dani Price, Will Sellers, Emma Dresher, Logan Church, Katie Dresher and Eric Goldsboro.

Most youth events for the year are completed. A youth Fishing Derby and a Casting Contest will be held at 8 a.m. on Aug. 16.

In October, a Ladies and Youth Trap Camp will be held. All equipment and shells will be provided. Interested contestants are urged to sign up soon, as the Association expects to have about 35 campers in the class. Information is found on our web page. The new complete schedule of Youth events will pick up once again in May of 2015. Keep checking on the website and Facebook page for new schedules.

Norman gets World Championship invite

XENIA — Grace Norman, a junior-to-be at Xenia Christian High School, received an invitation to compete in the World ParaTriathlon Championships, to be raced Aug. 30 in Edmonton, Canada. Norman is the only United States athlete to be invited for the PT4 women’s division. There are eight athletes at this time, from seven countries who will vie for the PT4 world title.

Reds to host Yoga session

CINCINNATI — Are you a Reds fan who’s also into yoga? If so, don’t miss “Sliding Into Om” on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Great American Ball Park. It’s your chance to take the field for a one-hour yoga session led by instructors from Simply Power Yoga. The Sliding Into Om package is only $25 and includes:

• Yoga on the field on Sept. 6 (8:30 a.m.)

• Game ticket for Reds vs. Cardinals on Sept. 9 (7:10 p.m.)

• Complimentary yoga session at Simply Power Yoga

Tickets must be purchased in advance, so reserve your spot today at Registration and check-in is at 8 a.m., the yoga session takes place from 8:30-9:30 on the ball field, then refreshments provided by Coffee Emporium, and fresh fruit from the Castellini Company, will be available from 9:30-10 a.m.

Hummingbirds Soccer offered

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Parks and Recreation Department, in cooperation with Jump Start Sports, is offering Hummingbirds Soccer for children ages 3-6. The camp is scheduled for Mondays, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Sept. 8-Oct. 13 (ages 3-4), and 6:30-7:30 p.m. (ages 5-6) at Rotary Park. Fee for residents is $65; non-resident fee is $75.

Boys and girls will have fun and learn the basics of soccer: dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting and positioning. Each session consists of instruction in each aspect of the game, fun drills that are designed to teach skills, and low-key non-competitive games.

Introductory Lacrosse in September

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Jump Start Sports is offering Introductory Lacrosse Camp for children in grades K-5. The camp is scheduled from 6-7:15 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 9-Oct. 14, at Rotary Park. Fee for residents is $65; non-resident fee is $75.

Experienced coaches, provided by Jump Start Sports, will lead the training on all the fundamentals, including: passing, catching, fielding ground balls, cradling, spacing, positioning and defense. Players will be divided by gender and age to play fun game situational scrimmages. Plastic sticks and soft balls will be provided.
