Scouts drop out of postseason


ATHENS — The Xenia Scouts have lost their second-round playoff series to the Southern Ohio Copperheads, losing the second game in a three-game series Thursday at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, 10-1.


The Scouts were outscored in the series 24-2, having issues containing the Copperhead bats. Xenia’s four pitchers gave up a total of 12 hits and five walks. The Copperheads had a 4-0 lead through six innings. After the Scouts got on the board with a run in the top of the seventh inning, So. Ohio exploded for six runs in the eighth.


Xenia’s starting pitcher Jason Karkenny pitched five innings, giving up seven hits and three runs. Carson Corff gave up a run and a hit in an inning’s worth of work and Nick Land gave up six runs on four hits, getting only two outs. Santiago Romero didn’t give up a run or a hit in his one inning pitched.


Conner Combs and Tyler Taute had two hits each for the Scouts. Tyler Krahn added another. Combs earned Xenia’s only run in the seventh inning.


Xenia finished with a playoff record of 1-2 and an overall record of 22-21.


Hummingbirds Soccer offered


BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Parks and Recreation Department, in cooperation with Jump Start Sports, is offering Hummingbirds Soccer for children ages 3-6. The camp is scheduled for Mondays, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Sept. 8-Oct. 13 (ages 3-4), and 6:30-7:30 p.m. (ages 5-6) at Rotary Park. Fee for residents is $65; non-resident fee is $75.


Boys and girls will have fun and learn the basics of soccer: dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting and positioning. Each session consists of instruction in each aspect of the game, fun drills that are designed to teach skills, and low-key non-competitive games.

Introductory Lacrosse in September


BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Jump Start Sports is offering Introductory Lacrosse Camp for children in grades K-5. The camp is scheduled from 6-7:15 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 9-Oct. 14, at Rotary Park. Fee for residents is $65; non-resident fee is $75.


Experienced coaches, provided by Jump Start Sports, will lead the training on all the fundamentals, including: passing, catching, fielding ground balls, cradling, spacing, positioning and defense. Players will be divided by gender and age to play fun game situational scrimmages. Plastic sticks and soft balls will be provided.
