Skyhawk athletes earn sportsmanship award
FAIRBORN — Fairborn High School students Anthony Grundy and Kayla Patterson have been selected to receive the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s prestigious Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award. The award, named for two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, is presented each year to a male and female student who have been outstanding in their efforts to promote sportsmanship in their school and community. They were presented with the award Wednesday night.
Grundy, who is attending Ashland University to play football, is a standout football and track and field athlete at Fairborn High School. Patterson, who received a full scholarship to play basketball at Cleveland State University, is a standout athlete in basketball and track and field at Fairborn.
Xenia hosting mandatory athletics meeting
XENIA — Xenia Community Schools will host a mandated OHSAA Parent/Athlete Meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 19th in the Xenia High School gym for anyone in grades 7 - 12 interested in participating in a Fall sport. Anyone interested in participating must attend with parent or guardian.
My Pro Day locations announced
Local athletes will be able to participate in the Second Annual Youth Baseball Skills Evaluation presented by U.S. Baseball Academy and My Pro Day this summer at area high schools.
My Pro Day will be located at Stebbins High School from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4 in Riverside. The next available event will be held from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City. The final event will be held at Bellbrook High School from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18 in Bellbrook.
The events are meant to duplicate the experience of a pro baseball or college tryout and are available to players of all abilities, from ages 6-18. Those interested will be able to purchase a My Pro Day membership for half off at $59 for a limited time.
The My Pro Day membership starts with a pro baseball or college style evaluation, where coaches will identify strengths and weaknesses, and participants will see a skill-by-skill rankings in a nationwide player database. They will test arm strength, fielding skills, pitching speed and accuracy, catcher pop times, hitting and bunting ability, speed, agility, athleticism and more.
