Action Sports announces softball tourney schedule

DAYTON — Action Sports will be running girls fast pitch softball tournaments this summer. The sports complex, located on 1103 Gateway Dr. in Dayton, will be offering USSSA and ASA qualifiers. Action Sports offers six skinned softball fields, state of the art lighting for night games and a red brick dust which helps prevent rain outs. Fairborn Girls Softball Association taking registrations in February

FAIRBORN — Fast-pitch and Slow-pitch summer softball registrations will take place from 9-11 a.m. and 12-2 p.m. Feb. 15, 22 and March 1, at the Inside Scoop Ice Cream shop, located at 1084 Kauffman Ave. in Fairborn. The Fairborn Girls Softball Association (FGSA) welcomes girls from all communities. The slow-pitch league is for girls ages 5-20 and will be played at Fairborn Community Park. The Fast-pitch league is for 10U-18U teams and will be played at Fairfield Park. Individual fees are $65 for the first player, $55 for the second. Young part of Dark Horse Dunker competition

Intersport, producers of the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, announced Wright State’s Jerran Young will be part of the first round voting for the 2014 “State Farm Dark Horse Dunker” competition that is now open and runs through Feb. 24. The 16-player field is stocked with under-the-radar players who possess the power, creativity, and hops to compete against college basketball’s stars in the Slam Dunk Championship. Fans will determine the winner by voting daily on Facebook.com/CollegeSlam throughout the five-week competition.

Young has electrified crowds with his acrobatic dunks over the past two season and has been featured twice this year on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top Ten.

The “State Farm Dark Horse Dunker” is a bracket-style elimination competition. Round One voting is open for two weeks and features eight head-to-head matchups. Winners will be announced Feb. 24 when Round Two opens. Voting for Round Two, the Semifinals, and the Finals will be open one week each. The champion will be announced March 17 and compete in Dallas on April 3. Fans can view a video of each dunker and cast their vote at www.Facebook.com/CollegeSlam.

Arnold 5K registration remains open

COLUMBUS — The 14th annual Arnold 5K will be held on Sunday, March 2 in downtown Columbus. The race is part of the Arnold Sports Festival Weekend. All entrants receive an Arnold 5K race T-shirt and a free entry ($15 value) to the 26th annual Arnold Sports Festival after the race, plus the top 500 finishers receive Arnold 5K medals.
