XENIA — The Ware-Smith Women’s Missionary Society of United AME Church, led by the Rev. Dr. John E. Freeman, will host a prayer breakfast 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 5.

The theme is “A Call to Mission: Inspiring Hope through Prayer.” The prayer breakfast is an annual event sponsored by the missionary society to promote and encourage spiritual growth. This year’s speaker is Aiyana Marcus.

Marcus grew up attending United AME Church in Xenia, and currently serves as a member and marketing director for Kingdom Culture, Inc. – an intercessory prayer ministry overseen by Anita Logan. As a passionate enthusiast for arts ministry, Marcus is a writer of poetry and dramatic plays. She credits her relationship with the most high for her artistic ministry. Marcus has danced as a praise dancer with Greater Grace Temple in Springfield for five years and taught youth Sunday school for five years between United A.M.E. Church and Greater Grace Temple. Her most recent endeavors include marketing and producing a musical and poetic project uplifting black women for the up-and-coming artist, ORIT.

United AME Church traces its history to 1833 with the formation of a prayer group. Following the 1974 tornado that struck Xenia, two churches (First AME Church and St. John AME Church) merged and became one, United AME Church. The Women’s Missionary Society is a component of the church.

Tickets are available for $10 each and the public is invited to attend. The church is at 286 E. Church St. in Xenia.
