CLAYTON — Northmont’s girls tennis team continued its successful season by posting a 5-0 home court victory Wednesday against Fairborn.
Akilah Parker scored a 6-2, 7-5 victory at first singles over Tereza Mafkova. Parker improved to 8-1 for the season while Mafkova fell to 1-3.
“We knew Akilah would have a nice match-up with Fairborn’s foreign exchange student, Mafkova,” said Northmont Coach Christine Hall. “Akilah jumped out to a fantastic start, and she was able to hold off a late second set run to win the match in straight sets!”
At second singles Marissa Anderson ran her record to 7-2 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Brooklyn Hunter (2-2).
Kennedy Harden improved to 8-1 overall by defeating Alexa Sheets 6-0, 6-0 at third singles.
In first double Hailey Weaver and Michelle Hibbard (7-2) defeated Allyssa Barker and Sydney Renner 6-4, 6-1.
At second doubles Emily Molen and Amari McCain (7-2) scored a 6-0, 6-1 win against Alyssa Stark and Kyla Secrest 6-0, 6-1
With the victory Northmont improved to 8-1 overall while Fairborn fell to 4-4.
“This team is putting in a lot of work, and we are seeing the results,” Hall added.
Today (Thursday, Aug. 28) the Lady Bolts will host Trotwood-Madison, hosts Wayne on Tuesday, September 2, travels to Sidney on Wednesday, September 3 and then plays at Lebanon on Thursday, September 4. Match play begins at 4:30 p.m. each day.
