With the girl’s basketball sectional play under way, it’s time for the boys to get into tournament mode. On Sunday, the high school boys found out who they would be playing in the first games of the 2013 - ’ 14 postseason.


Beavercreek was awarded with the highest seed of all the local teams. The Beavers (13-7) were hot at the beginning of the year, winning their first nine games, but have recently been losing tough games to difficult opponents. They earned a third seed and a first-round bye in the Dayton 3 bracket of the Division I sectional tournament. They will face the winner of the Piqua-Fairborn game at 6 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 26 at Vandalia Butler High School.


Fairborn (12-7) earned the eighth seed and will play the no. 13 seed Piqua (11-8) 5:30 p.m Friday, Feb. 21 ., also at Vandalia Butler High School.


The Xenia Buccaneers were placed in the Dayton 2 bracket of the D-I sectional tournament. The Bucs (8-11) were given the no. 12 seed and will play no. 14 Northmont (7-11) at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at Centerville High School. They were placed in the same bracket as no. 2 Wayne (14-4) and no. 5 Centerville (13-8)


In D-II sectional action, two local teams will face off against each other early. Fifth seed Carroll (11-9) was matched up against no. 9 seed Greenon (7-10). They play at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at Springfield High School. They are in the same bracket as first seed Urbana (13-4) and second seeded Tippecanoe (13-5).


The Bellbrook Golden Eagles (11-5) also earned a fifth seed in the Trent Arena bracket of the D-II tournament. They face no. 7 Ponitz (11-3) at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at Vandalia Butler. They are in the same bracket as first seeded Dunbar (16-3) and Southwestern Buckeye League rival Franklin (15-3), who was given the no. 2 seed.


Greeneview (7-11) was given the no. 18 seed, as well as a first-round bye. They will play the winner between top seed Chaminade Julienne (9-8) and no. 20 seed Northeastern (2-17) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday Feb. 25 at Belmont High School.


In Division IV Xenia Christian, Cedarville and Yellow Springs respectively earned no. 5, no. 8 and no. 11 seeds.


Yellow Springs (3-14) will take on no. 4 seed Bethel (15-3) at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Troy High School. The winner of that game will move on to play Xenia Christian who drew a first-round bye. That game will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Troy.


Cedarville (9-9) will take on no. 7 seed Catholic Central (7-9) at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24 at Troy High School.
