DAYTON — Abby Saner was recently named the winner of the January Penn Station Athlete of the Month (PSAM). The Xenia High School senior is being awarded for her outstanding athleticism in swimming. Saner not only dominates in the high school sports world, but she also excels in the classroom with a 4.9 GPA at Xenia High School. Upon graduation, she plans to swim for Wright State University.

“Abby is a hard working, ambitious, dependable young lady. She is very responsible, setting high standards for herself and others,” says Xenia High athletic director Mark Stoll.

In honor of Abby’s achievement as the Penn Station “Athlete of the Month,” her picture will be displayed in all Greater Dayton Penn Station restaurants, as well as featured on the www.psdayton.com website. She will be given a party for 15 at a Penn Station of her choice. And, most importantly, she will be in the running for a $5,000 college scholarship to be awarded at the end of the school year.

Continuing from last year is the School Spirit Award. The nominated athlete’s school that shows the most spirit wins $1,500 towards their athletic department.

Over 15 years ago, Penn Station launched the “Athlete of the Month” program to showcase the extraordinary student athletes in Dayton. Thus far, 124 Dayton area students have received “Athlete of the Month” recognition and 15 have been awarded $5,000 college scholarships.

“Abby is an outstanding student-athlete who the Dayton society can be proud to have as a representative. By excelling in the community, at school and in the pool, Abby shows the true talent our community has. We are proud to have Abby as our January Athlete of the Month,” says John Dorger, managing owner of Penn Station Dayton.

The goal of the Penn Station “Athlete of the Month” program is to ensure that all Miami Valley schools are recognized in this program.
