XENIA — Xenia First Church of Christ will host a special holiday presentation “This Is My Country - A Celebration of Freedom” 7 p.m. July 1-3, 441 Ledbetter Road.
The Xenia Hospitality Chorus will present a special pre-concert at 6:30 p.m. featuring patriotic selections and the Songs of Summer. “This Is My Country” focuses on Abraham Lincoln and the struggles he encountered while leading a torn nation. By the mid-19th Century, slavery had begun to tear our country apart. A plain-dressed, soft-spoken man entered the public eye in the fall of 1858 when he ran for the Illinois Senate. He lost that race, but in losing, he won, because the people could not forget him and sent him to the White House two years later.
“This Is My Country” features a cast of more than 75. The Liberty Ensemble will be singing patriotic favorites: “This Is My Country,” “This land Is Your Land,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and “God Bless the USA.” Also participating, besides numerous actors portraying various characters in US history, is a kid’s choir and a parade of flags during the finale. A highlight of the program will be the “Salute to The Armed Forces.”
During this song, those men and women who have served our country, both past and currently, will go forward during their branch’s song. They will be honored with a special gift.
