BEAVERCREEK — People were lined up at 3:30 a.m. Monday for a chance at a ticket to see Hillary Clinton on Friday.

The former first lady and secretary of state will be at Books & Company at The Greene in Beavercreek 7 p.m. to sign her new book, “Hard Choices.”

The store began distributing tickets at 9 a.m. with the purchase of the book or with proof of previous purchase from Books & Co., or Books-a-Million. Between 400 and 450 were in line and received their tickets according to Books & Co., spokesperson Sharon Kelly Roth.

“People were excited about it,” she said. “They were from all over the community and beyond. Very pleased.”

It’s unknown how many tickets the store is distributing, but the “Hard Choices” website indicates Clinton will sign for an hour, and Kelly Roth said Clinton can sign about 500 books an hour. Clinton’s security personnel will determine how many tickets Books & Co., can distribute but Kelly Roth said patrons who receive a ticket get a signed book.

“We don’t want anybody left in line,” she said.

Monday’s excitement may just be a sign of what’s to come on Friday.

Already a hopping place on weekend evenings, Clinton’s visit should add even more hustle and bustle to the outdoor shopping center. But Beavercreek police will be ready.

“We will have a uniformed presence,” said Public Information Officer Capt. Eric Grile. “Obviously anytime we have a dignitary we always do.”

While it could be stressful on law enforcement, the extra attention is good for the city according to Mayor Brian Jarvis.

“It’s pretty big,” he said. “That many people will certainly bring additional sales to the area. For the Greene itself its going to bring a big name. It’s going to get news broadcast locally and nationally. That will keep Beavercreek on the map.”

The store has placed a limit of one signed book per customer and only tickets patrons will be allowed in line. Children under 10 may accompany a ticketed adult, the store said. No personal items, cameras, bags or backpacks will be allowed in the signing area and no other items will be signed.

The store is encouraging ticket holders to arrive no later than 6:30 in order to be placed in line.

While The Greene has plenty of parking, the gravel lot near the front is now the location of the new Nordstrom Rack store.

“People will have to come early,” Jarvis said.

“Hard Choices” chronicles the crises, choices, and challenges Clinton — a rumored 2016 presidential candidate — faced during her years as America’s 67th secretary of state, and how those experiences drive her view of the future.
