BEAVERCREEK — Even a rainy day couldn’t stop a Unison Industries employee car, motorcycle and unique vehicle show Thursday. This was the company’s 11th such annual show, designed to raise money for the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area.

Even as the rain rolled down, employees rolled in under cover of umbrellas to enjoy live music, food, a 50-50 raffle, $4,000-worth of prizes, a cornhole tournament and 140 vehicles. Event organizers said that in the past the event has raised about $13,000. Money was raised through vehicle entries, vehicle voting, food costs and cornhole tournament entries.

Mary Gillis, director of the Greene County branch of the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area, said Unison is United Way’s number one contributor in Greene County.

“They are very, very good partners with us,” she said. “They’re very community minded, and they make great partners with where we’re going.”

The president and CEO of the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area, J. Thomas Maultsby, spoke highly of Unison, which is owned by General Electric.

“If you add up the contribution of these people and what they’re doing today, it would be thousands of dollars in employee time and contribution in volunteerism,” he said. “They do really care about the community.”

Maultsby also spoke of the two groups getting ready to have higher-level conversations about solving human services problems.

“Not just contributive programs, but how we actually solve problems,” he said. “That’s big, big work. It’s different, it’s strategic, it’s expensive, but they’re willing to have the conversations around those kind of things. Wonderful company.”
