BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Board of Education announced that Penelope R. Rucker will join the district as its Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective June 1.

Rucker is currently Treasurer and CFO for Columbus City Schools, a position she has held since April 2009. As Treasurer/CFO of the largest school district in the state, she oversees a budget of more than $1.2 billion.

Her professional career also includes three and a half years as Treasurer and CFO for Springfield City Schools; two years as Treasurer and CFO for London City Schools; and four and a half years as Assistant Treasurer for Upper Arlington City Schools. She operated her own consulting firm for seven years, where she provided financial counsel to a wide variety of school districts and private businesses, and even served as interim treasurer for clients as needed.

Rucker began her career as an auditor with the Ohio Auditor of State’s office, and also worked as an internal auditor for The Ohio State University. Her educational background includes a Master of Education in School Treasury from Ashland University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Franklin University.

“Penny has an outstanding track record, a reputation for integrity, and a breadth and depth of experience that are difficult to find,” said Al Nels, president of the Beavercreek Board of Education. “She has helped struggling districts gain a firm financial footing, and districts in good financial shape continue to improve. And she has demonstrated a commitment to transparency and clear, understandable financial communication that will be appreciated by the citizens of our district.”

Rucker’s professional affiliations include membership in the Ohio Association of School Business Officials and the Ohio School Boards Association. She also served as an adjunct faculty member at Columbus State Community College.

“Beavercreek Schools have a strong reputation, and my research points to a district that is well run – one that respects best practices, is dedicated to cost containment and efficiency, and is focused on offering the best education possible to its students,” said Rucker. “I am committed to maintaining this tradition, and to helping the district continue to improve.”
