Agriculture scholarships available

GREENE COUNTY — Greene County Farm Forum will award up to $5,000 in scholarships to current year graduating students or college freshmen pursuing higher education in a field related to agriculture. Those applying must be a resident of Greene County or have attended Greene County schools.

Applications are due April 20 and for an application email scholarship chair Jim Byrd for Greene County Farm Forum at: [email protected] or call him at 937-429-1805. Over the past eight years Greene County Farm Forum has awarded over $14,600 to deserving recipients studying programs in agriculture.

Farm Bureau offers scholarships

GREENE COUNTY — Greene County Farm Bureau will award up to two $1,500 scholarships to deserving residents of Greene County who are a high school senior or college student pursuing an undergraduate degree. Those applying must be under the age of 25 at the time of application and preference will be given to those pursuing a degree an agriculture related field of study.

Applicants must be an active Greene County Farm Bureau member or have a parent, grandparent or guardian who is a Greene County Farm Bureau member. Application deadline is April 15, 2017 as explained in the application. MU locals graduate

OXFORD — Miami University awarded degrees to students during fall commencement exercises Dec. 13, 2016, at Millett Hall. Local students who received degrees include:

Gregory C. Billhardt of Bellbrook graduated with a master of business administration degree in business administration; Rachel E. Brady of Beavercreek graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in strategic communication; Lauren E. Burling of Beavercreek graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in education degree in special education; Nicholas F. Hemmert of Beavercreek graduated with a bachelor of science in engineering degree in mechanical engineering; Laura A. Paxson of Fairborn graduated with a master of education degree in special education; Paul J. Repasky of Beavercreek graduated with a doctor of philosophy degree in chemistry and Madison N. Tracy of Beavercreek graduated with a bachelor of science in education degree in early childhood education.

Local students named to lists

BEXLEY — Capital University announce Molly Garringer of Jamestown was named to the provost’s list for the fall 2016 semester. To be named to the Provost’s List, full-time, degree-seeking students must have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.70.

Benjamin Heiland and Lukas Heiland, both of Beavercreek were named to the dean’s list for fall semester. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, full-time, degree-seeking students must have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5.

Amy Wissman of Beavercreek was named to president’s list at Capital University for fall. To be named to the President’s List, students must have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.85.

UK Dean’s List

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A record number of students made the University of Kentucky Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester. To make a Dean’s List in one of the UK colleges, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes.

The following Greene County students were named to the list: Anthony J. Donigian, Riley D. Cutler, Kelsey A. Simpson, Makenna N. Tracy, Leah M. Elliott, all of Beavercreek; Lillian P. Grunder, Haily C. Hayslip, Jacob P. Schmitt, Cynthia G. Wagner, all of Bellbrook; Stephanie L. Buzzard, Juliann A. De Roo, David P. Gallivan and Lauren A. Mason, all of Xenia.

Student graduates

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Ranjitha Gade, of Beavercreek graduated from the University of Central Missouri Dec. 9-10, 2016. More than 1,000 students met their graduation requirements and were eligible to participate in the ceremonies. Gade graduated with a master of science degree.

Dean’s list released

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — Jaemes Chouinard of Beavercreek graduated from Saginaw Valley State University whose determination and commitment to academic achievement earned them a spot on the fall 2016 semester deans’ list. To be eligible for the deans’ list, a student must take at least 12 credit hours and carry a semester GPA of 3.4 or better.

Dean’s list at MU

OXFORD — Students named to the dean’s list at Miami University Regionals for the 2016 fall semester. The dean’s list at Miami Univeristy Regionals is reserved for students with high academic achievement who were enrolled in less than 12 graded credit hours. Local students include Amanda Bridgeford of Fairborn and Danielle Boyd of Dayton.

TU Dean’s List

TIFFIN UNIVERSITY — Tiffin University announced the 2016 fall semester dean’s list. Greene County residents honored include: Misty Conkright of Jamestown and Omar Khala Alanazi of Beavercreek.

Sheffer in exhibit

FINDLAY — Brooke Sheffer of Beavercreek recently participated in the ArtSpace/Lima Photography Club’s 2017 Juried Photography Exhibit. Sheffer received an honorable mention in the black and white category for her photo, “Transfiguration.”

Ford named to list

ITHACA, N.Y. — Taylor Ford is a resident of Yellow Springs and sociology major and was named to the dean’s list in Ithaca College’s School of Humanities and Sciences for the fall 2016 semester.

Missouri announces honor list

ROLLA, Mo. — Missouri University of Science and Technology announces the names of students who made the honor list for the fall 2016 semester. Abdulrahman AL-Eid of Fairborn is a mechanical engineering senior and was named to that list. To be included on the honor list, students must have carried a minimum of 12 hours and had grade point averages of 3.2 or above out of a possible 4.0.

Song performs in concert

FINDLAY — Dana Song of Beavercreek recently performed in the University of Findlay Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble’s pops concert “Those Roaring Twenties.” The annual concert was directed by Jack Taylor, University director of bands and music professor.

Local student part of robotics team

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek resident Paul Haviland was among students participating in a robotics team regional competition event in Springfield.

Representing team BONDS are three students: Paul Haviland of Beavercreek, homeschooled, Damon Alexander of Dayton Early College Academy(DECA), and Caleb Dunn of Oakwood High School. BONDS 5811 won World Rookie All Star Award last year.

The teams of high school students work for six weeks starting in early January to build an industrial sized robot from scratch under strict specifications given by For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST).

Those 48 teams will come together for the Miami Valley Regional Competition March 9-11 at the Wittenberg University Rec Plex in Springfield. This free competition is a great opportunity for families with young kids interested in robotics to come and see how they can get involved. Audience viewing times will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 10 and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 11.
