FAIRBORN — The Ohio State Gold Wing Road Riders Association raised $2,000 for the Dayton Ohio Red Cross during the Buckeye Rally in June.
“In the past two years we have donated $500 through fund raisers at our rally which was held at the Xenia fairgrounds,” said Jo Ann Collins, Chapter F of the Gold Wing Road Riders. “This year I was hoping to double that and the bikers came through with hard work and doubled the last two years’ total which gives me the priviledge to turn checks over for the sum of $2,000.”
Collins has been a mass care disaster service member of the local Red Cross since 2003. The Red Cross is the main charity Chapter F supports. This year they held a raffle with a grand prize from Gentle Breeze Hot Air Balloon in Lebanon who supplied the ticket for the special Hot Air Balloon ride for two.
“It was great for me to be able to show support to the Red Cross,” Collins said. “I feel what we do is very important to the community and it is my pleasure to serve and support. I have been blessed to be a part of the wonderful organization and see first hand with boots on the ground what we do and how it impacts the community and people who depend and need the support and help of the volunteers.
“I hope that other groups, organizations and businesses will follow by support of an organization Red Cross that helps so much in our community.”
