FAIRBORN — The City of Fairborn Fire Department promoted firefighter JR Routt to the lieutenant position Tuesday, July 12.

Routt has served as acting lieutenant for the past five years. Some of his duties include: driver operator of Q4 at Station No. 4 on Platoon 1, operation safety net coordinator, CPR instructor; and EMS continuing education instructor for the department.

Routt has been the recipient of the department’s life saving ribbon three times, and was Fairborn’s Firefighter of the Year in 2011.

“I look forward to continue working in the community with the pride and respect this community deserves,” said Routt after his formal swearing-in administered by Assistant City Manager Pete Bales.

Routt additionally thanked a number of firefighters and family members who helped shape him into the person he is today.

Routt’s career as a firefighter began immediately after high school where he was employed by the Enon Fire/EMS Department in 1998. During his time with Enon, he also worked part-time for the City of Englewood Fire Department. In January 2005, Routt was hired by the City of Fairborn Fire Department.

Routt is a native of Fairborn, where his father served as a volunteer firefighter for Fairborn in the 1970s.
