Several communities to recognize Independence Day

GREENE COUNTY — A number of Greene County communities will see streets taken over by parades and night skies lit up by fireworks in the coming days.

Below is a description of all the local Independence Day events that are scheduled to take place:

FAIRBORN — Citizens are invited to participate in the City of Fairborn’s annual Fourth of July events. The annual block party takes place 3-10 p.m. Sunday, July 3 on Main Street, including food and entertainment. Its annual Fourth of July parade begins 10 a.m. Monday, July 4. It starts at the Fairborn Plaza parking lot near Mary Help of Christians Church, traveling down Central Avenue and wrapping up at Main and Broad Streets. Fireworks will spark beginning approximately 9:45 p.m. Monday, July 4 at Community Park, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road.

ENON —The Village of Enon will host a community carnival starting 5 p.m. Sunday, July 3 at the Enon VFW Post 8437, George Rogers Clark Memorial, 5075 Enon-Xenia Road. It will include family-friendly activities, such as live music, food vendors, a silent auction and games. Fireworks will follow the event beginning at dusk. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. The celebrations will continue with a parade beginning 1 p.m. Monday, July 4, stepping off from Indian Valley Middle School 510 S. Xenia Drive, traveling east on Main Street and ending at the Enon and Mad River Township Fire and EMS Department, 260 E. Main St.

YELLOW SPRINGS — The Village of Yellow Springs is inviting the community to participate in its Fourth of July parade and watch fireworks take the night sky Monday, July 4. All are welcome to participate in the parade, but must be at Herman Street located across the Friends Care Community facility beginning at 2 p.m. The parade will start at 3 p.m. at the Friends Care facility, 150 Herman St., and ends at the John Bryan Community Center, 100 Dayton St. Firework entertainment will begin at dusk at Gaunt Park, 7 E. S. College St. and will include food vendors. Yellow Springs Odd Fellows Lodge, who is sponsoring the fireworks, will pass around a hat, seeking donations.

BEAVERCREEK — The City of Beavercreek is including a parade and fireworks display as part of its Fourth of July celebrations. The parade begins 6 p.m. Monday, July 4 at the intersection of Dayton-Xenia Road. The celebration will continue at Rotary Park, 2260 Dayton-Xenia Road with food, entertainment, a bounce house and fireworks beginning 10 p.m.

XENIA — The Kevin Sonnycalb Memorial Fireworks Festival takes place 4-10 p.m. at Shawnee Park. Activities leading up to the fireworks show include a superhero bike parade and a fishing derby. There will be bouncy houses and laser tag along with food, beverages and entertainment. Shawnee Park is on North Detroit Street, two blocks from downtown.
