Police department receives grant

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Police Department has received the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for Law Enforcement in the amount of $9,648.57.

This grant provides agencies with the flexibility to prioritize and place justice funds where they are needed most. Some of the uses include procuring equipment, computer technology, and other materials directly related to law enforcement functions.

Police Chief Terry Barlow said that the application was submitted in October and the department was recently notified of the award. The grant requires a local 10 percent match of $1,072.06, making the total funding amount $10,720.63.

The funds will be used to purchase two Pro-Guard Vehicle Partitions with removable Level IIIA Viper Ballistic Shield, and one Motorola APX6500 Mobile Radio that is Multi-Agency Radio Communication System (MARCS) capable.

“This grant allows us to purchase deployable ballistic shields from the built in vehicle partition that will be used to provide the highest level of officer safety utilizing this equipment,” stated Barlow, “In addition, the department will add another state-ofthe-art digital MARCS capable mobile radio.”

Chief Barlow presented the resolution to accept the award at during the March 6 council meeting as the budget for 2017 had already been completed at the time of submission. City council unanimously approved the 10 percent match.
