FAIRBORN — Wright State University is extending its grounds by 220,000 square feet to the facilities located across the street from the main Dayton campus, which is now officially known as the Vishal Soin Innovation Park.

“The Vishal Soin Innovation Park will be a hub for Wright State University’s engagement with regional companies and expansion of its industry partnerships and their impact,” Wright State President Dr. David Hopkins said. “It will be recognized as a vibrant center of collaboration — that’s our vision for what will happen.”

The Vishal Soin Innovation Park is foreseen to bring innovation to the Miami Valley due to its proximity to Wright State, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Interstate 675 and Soin Medical Center. It is already the home to the Wright State University Foundation; Double Bowler Properties (Wright State’s real state acquisition company); Aerospace Business Development Associates, Inc. (ABDA); Aptima, Inc. and The Design Knowledge Company (TDKC).

ABDA, Aptima, Inc. and TDKC are considered aerospace and defense contractors, according to Wright State. In addition, some Wright State offices have already been relocated to the park.

It will welcome Nucleus Fairborn in May, which will aim to provide a facility that welcomes entrepreneurs and start-up businesses to put their heads together in collaboration projects. According to Wright State, Nucleus Fairborn will be the first co-working building in the Miami Valley outside of Downtown Dayton, which was made possible by a partnership created between the City of Fairborn, Wright State, Greene County, the Entrepreneurs Center and NucleusCoShare.

Hopkins announced during the Vishal Soin Innovation Park dedication ceremony Feb. 17 that the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine had just finished up paperwork ensuring that it would have a space in the park as well.

“The idea is that this isn’t just a Wright State thing — it’s part of the university’s campus, but the regional impact is drawn from a much larger base,” said Vishal Soin, who the park is named after. “The idea, obviously, is to have a broad impact.”

Soin served on the Wright State Board of Trustees from 2006-2015 and as its president from 2010 to 2012. Wright State expressed gratitude to his service, in addition to the Soin family. It wrote in a press release that the university experienced a period of growth during his service to the board, including strong enrollment, new degree programs and the transition from quarters to semesters.
