Fighting for East Palestine

Recently, I visited East Palestine where a Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous materials derailed leading to a large explosion and fire. I went to listen to the people that this disaster has hurt the most: The residents of East Palestine and the surrounding communities.

Insecurity affects people in different ways, from a simple annoyance to debilitating anxiety. It can be especially jarring when you were just there, doing your thing, and then, out of the blue, something rocks your confidence. Insecurity generally occurs when we compare ourselves to others, giving in to the ridiculous and constantly varying standards set by society.

When Greene County was newly organized, settlers came from various parts of the county to take advantage of the wonderful farm land which had become available for reasonable prices.

Remembering M.A. Walton

M.A. Walton came to Spring Valley in 1891. He went into business with William Neeld. The two men began a saw mill business. They built their mill and opened for business in 1891. It was reported that they had several hundred trees brought from the farms in the vicinity and were prepared to make what was known in the lumber market as “quarter oak.” The Walton family continued in a variety of businesses in Spring Valley and Neeld opened a funeral home there and later moved to Xenia.
