Junior golf league crowns first tourney winners
XENIA — The WGC Golf Course Junior Golf League opened league play Wednesday with 13 junior golfers teeing it up. Olivia Wagner of Xenia won the Girls Division with a 49.
Dillon Potts was the medalist in the Junior Boys Division with a 44. Tyler Goecke fired a 38 to win the Senior Boys Division.
Potts won the Longest Putt Contest while Connor Cummins was a double winner, capturing both the Closest-to-the-Pin and the Second Closest-to-the-Pin shot contests. Play continues at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at WGC, located at 944 Country Club Drive in Xenia, and will feature a Longest Drive Contest as one of the special events.
Regional soccer champs crowned
BEAVERCREEK – Champions were crowned at the 2014 U.S. Youth Soccer Region II (Midwest) Championships, which were held at the Ankeney Soccer Complex. Winners in the U13 through U19 Boys and Girls matches earned a regional title and a berth to the 2014 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships.
Three defending champions attained another consecutive regional title – U17 Girls NSA Jaguars (Ill.), U19 Girls Team Chicago Academy Botafogo (Ill), and U15 Boys Michigan Wolves (Mich.).
Defending U19 national champion Team Chicago Academy Botafogo, will get another shot at the 2014 National Championship after earning their third straight regional title.
Illinois and Michigan each had five championship teams. Ohio North was represented by two champion teams, and Kansas and Missouri each had one champion.
The 2014 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships, presented by the National Guard, will take place July 22-27, at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md. The U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships will consist of regional champions in the U13 through U19 Boys and Girls age groups, as well as the U.S. Youth Soccer National League qualifiers in the U14 through U18 boys and girls age groups, to complete the field of 96 teams.

T-Ball all star game Saturday
BELLBROOK — The Bellbrook T-Ball League will host its 40th annual T-ball all star game at 10 a.m. this Saturday at Sackett-Wright Park. There will be presentation for the American flag, a live performance of the National Anthem and a player announcement for all participants. The event also celebrates all older players who will be moving on after this season.
Ohio Fury hosting baseball, softball tournaments
The Ohio Fury softball program will host baseball and softball tournaments July 4-6 at K.C. Geiger Park in St. Mary’s, Ohio. The softball tourney will be an ASA Eastern qualifier for 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U divisions. The baseball tournament will host 14U, 16U and 18U+ American Legion-sanctioned teams.
