MARYSVILLE — Several Greene County kids received some high honors at the 2013-2014 Ohio Cattlemen’s Association BEST (Beef Exhibitor Show Total) awards banquet in Columbus.
This year’s BEST program featured 17 sanctioned shows that weaved its way across the state with 380 youth participants showing 537 head of market animals and heifers.
Reserve champion shorthorn heifer honors went to Ben Harner of Xenia. Lauren Corry, also of Xenia, finished the season with the fifth overall crossbred heifer.
Champion crossbred steer was awarded to Alexandra Witt of Cedarville. Third overall novice showman was awarded to Haley Quallen of Xenia. She also tied for the sixth overall novice heifer with her crossbred heifer. Hallie Hiser of Jamestown was named the third overall senior showman.
During the BEST awards banquet, new junior representatives for the 2014-2015 season were announced. Corry and Matthew Hiser of Jamestown were Greene County residents chosen.
“The banquet is a time to celebrate the many achievements of our BEST participants, both in and out of the show ring,” said Stephanie Sindel, BEST coordinator. “Each participant is recognized for their hard work by family, friends and BEST supporters alike.”
More than $42,000 in belt buckles, furniture, show materials and other awards were handed out.
