Col. Glenn Highway resurfacing begins Monday

May 3, 2014

FAIRBORN — Colonel Glenn Highway will be under construction beginning Monday, May 5, for resurfacing and roadway improvements. This project extends from Paramount Place to University Boulevard.

The City of Fairborn awarded the contract for construction to RB Jergens Contractors, Inc. This project is part of the Annual Street Resurfacing Program and is anticipated to last through November.

While traffic will remain open in both directions for the duration of the project, lanes will be restricted. Delays and congestion are expected during this process. The city asks drivers to pay careful attention and drive safely in order to protect construction crew.

Civil Engineer Lee Harris said that during the roadway resurfacing, curb and gutter additions will occur on the south side of Colonel Glenn Highway. Construction of concrete curb medians will also be added to promote a consistent campus feel with Wright State University.

“This project will help to create an environment of growth and development within the city,” said Harris. “The city is cooperating with area businesses, RTA and the University to promote the connectivity between Wright State and the businesses in this area through the improvements along Colonel Glenn Highway.”

The addition of high visibility crosswalks at the intersections will make it safer for pedestrians to move between the university and businesses. The medians or islands will also promote safety as traffic slows through the corridor.

The city received a $400,000 grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission, which will cover all the curb, gutter, and storm sewer improvements.
