BELLBROOK — Local angler Ray Hale – also known as the Mayor of Greene County Parks & Trails’ Spring Lakes Park — recently landed an estimated 24-pound, 37-inch catfish known as “Old Whiskers.”

The catfish is approximately eight years old. During a 30-minute contest, Hale used a 30-pound test line and had to have the help of his fellow fishermen to bring him to shore. “Old Whiskers” was safety released back into Spring Lakes to battle another day.

Spring Lakes Park is located on Ferry Road outside Bellbrook and managed by Greene County Parks & Trails. The lake is routinely stocked with catfish and trout depending on the season.

Anglers are required to have a GCP&T fishing permit, which can be obtained at the Spring Lakes Bait House or at the park agency headquarters, 575 Ledbetter Road. For more information call Greene County Parks & Trails at 937-562-7440 or email abotkin@co.greene.oh.us.
