Local entrepreneurs to make big pitches at event

February 12, 2014

DAYTON — The Dayton Development Coalition’s entrepreneurial development team, Accelerant, in collaboration with The Entrepreneurs Center (TEC) and its entrepreneurial partner Wright-Patt Credit Union, will host an event called “Fund My Idea!” at The Entrepreneurs Open on Feb. 22.

The event will feature a group of venture capital and equity investors that will listen and give valuable feedback to several pre-selected local companies. Similar to format of ABC’s hit show Shark Tank, “Fund My Idea!” will give local companies an opportunity to pitch their business idea and by the end of the event, the audience will take control by voting on their favorite pitch.

“We are hoping to encourage entrepreneurs to start something big right here in the Dayton Region through this event, no matter what industry they are interested in,” said Joel Ivers, VP of Entrepreneurial Development at the Dayton Development Coalition and manager of the Accelerant fund.

“’Fund My Idea!’ will give entrepreneurs an opportunity to understand what investors are looking for when pitching for funding,” Ivers added. “We think this event will not only be fun, but educational to local entrepreneurs who are looking to start a business and know they’re going to need access to capital in the future. The techniques that will be demonstrated through the various presentations will be valuable to any pitch.”

Each presenting company will have approximately eight minutes to pitch their idea and receive an additional eight minutes of Q&A time from the expert panel of judges. Audience participation will be highly encouraged.

Winners will receive a waived $500 fee from TEC to have access to its many services. Pending qualification and interest, there will also be an opportunity for companies to enter the due diligence phase with Accelerant and/or other investors.

Free chicken wings and beverages will be provided. “Fund My Idea!” will be part of The Entrepreneurs Open, an all-day event focused on assisting regional entrepreneurs grow businesses in the Dayton Region. Guests should register for the free event online at http://www.theentrepreneursopen.org/.
