Two Knight wrestlers finish third
Greenon High School wrestlers Aaron Leciejewski and Corey Williams both placed third in their respective weight classes, during the Central Buckeye Conference wrestling championships held Saturday. Williams claimed a major decision win over Tipp City Tippecanoe’s Jack Peura to take third in the 152-pound weight class. Leciejewski won a 6-2 decision over Urbana’s Keith Gale to nab third in the 220-pound division.
Greenon finished 12th overall in the 12-team tournament.
Xenia finishes strong at GWOC tourney
Xenia wrestlers finished with their highest team placing in the Greater Western Ohio Conference wrestling tournament in at least 10 years. Xenia finished seventh out of 18 teams and had six individual placers. Placing for the Buccaneers were: Second - Trever Jackson (195); Third - Chase Neiswender (170); Fourth - Daylonn Dudgeon (160) and Cody Smith (220); Fifth - Tyler Senter (106); and Sixth - Lawrance Dudgeon (145).
Beavercreek finished 10th as a team, with Jacob Keller’s second-place finish in the 145-pound final leading the way.
Fairborn’s Gunnar Parr (285) and A.J. Warner (106) both claimed third-place finishes in their respective weight classes to lead the Skyhawks.
Golden Eagles third at SWBL Championships
With three league champions, two runners-up and a fourth-place finisher, the Bellbrook wrestling team finished well in the annual Southwestern Buckeye League wrestling championships this season.
Cameron Kelly (126-pounds), Tyler Wiederholt (145) and Benjamin Schram each claimed wrestling titles for the Golden Eagles. Peter Bonds (152) and Charles Broderick (285) both finished second in their respective weight classes, and 113-pounder Nick Weaver finished fourth.
Eaton won the overall team title, with Franklin second, just one point ahead of Bellbrook.
Carroll finishes as GCL’s top small school
With a six top-4 finishes, the Carroll Patriots finished fifth overall in the Greater Catholic League wrestling tournament, behind Cincinnati-area Division I powers Moeller, Elder, St. Xavier and La Salle.
Nick Berry lost a narrow 8-6 decision to a La Salle wrestler in the 113-pound final to place second, Chris Hughes (170) won his third-place match, while Adam Wilhelm (126), Tyler Stevens (182), Cassidy Stevens (195) and Kyle Fricke (285) each placed fourth.
Carroll outdistanced the next GCL Co-Ed Division school (Chaminade Julienne) by a 133.5 to 48 points margin.
Greeneview OHC runners up
With four weight class champs and eight top-4 finishers overall, the Greeneview Rams finished second as a team in the Ohio Heritage Conference wrestling championships.
Harrison Gallagher (113 pounds), Logan Lacure (145), Armani Robinson (182) and Adrian Harding (220) each claimed conference titles, while teammates Connor Wallace (second at 106), Max Thomas (4th, 120), Adam Bramble (4th, 138) and Isaiah Harding (2nd, 285) also placed.
Mechanicsburg claimed the OHC team title with a wrestler placing in the top-5 in all 14 weight categories.
FAIRBORN 55, GREENVILLE 28: Krissy Bennett scored 12 points, Jaia Jackson added 10 and Kayla Patterson scored nine points to lead Fairborn to a convincing win, Monday, 0ver Greenville. The Skyhawks (11-9, 4-4 Greater Western Ohio Conference) outscored the Green Wave 25-3 in the third quarter to blow open a close game.
KENTON RIDGE 78, XENIA 52: Host Kenton Ridge outscored Xenia 22-6 in the third quarter to pull away for Monday’s win. Autumn Meyer led Xenia (4-13) with 16 points, and Unique Conner finished with 10 points and 20 rebounds.
Jamari McDavid and Sara Thornton led Kenton Ridge with 20 and 19 points respectively.
GREENON 64, URBANA 35: Brittany Kozak scored a game-high 16 points, Brooke Robinson scored 14 points, Taylor Burson added a dozen, and Harley Larson scored eight as host Greenon claimed a win Saturday over Urbana. Braxton Rogan and Hunter Rogan each finished with nine points to lead Urbana.
LEBANON 54, FAIRBORN 46: The host Skyhawks rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to go up 36-34, but Lebanon outscored Fairborn 20-10 in the final stanza to win Saturday’s Greater Western Ohio Conference, South Division game. Krissy Bennett led Fairborn with 12 points scored. Maygan Boettcher scored a game-high 13 for Lebanon.
BEAVERCREEK 70, SPRINGFIELD 24: The visiting Beavercreek Battlin’ Beavers held Springfield to under 10 points in all four quarters of Saturday’s game. Beavercreek (13-7, 5-3 Greater Western Ohio Conference, Central) outscored Springfield 32-9 in the second half. No individual statistics were reported for Beavercreek. Five players led Springfield in scoring with four points each.
BENJAMIN LOGAN 47, GREENON 43: The Greenon Knights fell to Benjamin Logan Saturday despite two standout performances from Aiden Stockton and Jacob Whetsel. Stockton and Whetsel scored 12 and 14 points respectively. Stockton also had nine rebounds. Greenon had won four of their last five games, but the loss brings them to 7-9.
Benjamin Logan forward Austin Ahle scored a game-high 16 points and hauled in seven boards.
Greenon’s matchup with Shawnee Tuesday was cancelled due to weather.
FAIRBORN 62, GREENEVILLE 41: The Skyhawks came up with a convincing win over the Green Wave on Saturday thanks to standout performances from three players.
Senior forward Malik Jacobs almost had a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. Sharpshooter Jordan Michael finished with 15 points and two steals. Fairborn point guard Jordan Pumroy did the dirty work, finishing with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. He also had 4 assists in the win.
BELLBROOK 52, CARROLL 49: The Bellbrook boys have won six in a row after beating Carroll Saturday at Bellbrook High School. Bellbrook (11-3) has a tough challenge when they take on Franklin 7:15 p.m. this Friday at Bellbrook High School.
The Patriots (9-8) have lost two in a row now after a tough loss to rival CJ last week.
